Overview

This is a Discovery Journey to the Philippines, including homestays in two provincial cities. Whether in the mountains or the lowlands, Filipinos are proud to show visitors their culture, cuisine, and hospitality.

Home Hospitality

Provided by the Friendship Force club of ... Currently there are no Friendship Force clubs in the Philippines. This Discovery Journey has homestays in two Filipino cities, where we aim to estabish new Friendship Force clubs.

Live With a Local

  • Currently there is no Friendship Force presence in the Philippines. This Discovery Journey to two provincial cities will provide the opportunity to create two new Friendship Force clubs.
  • Filipino life is centered around extended families. The two homestays will give ambassadors the unique opportunity to experience this.
  • It is most likely that ambassadors will spend their free days celebrating with their hosts’ extended families.

Sightseeing Highlights

  • Both Baguio and Naga are provincial cultural centers. The itineraries in both cities will include visits to formal cultural sites, such as museums and historic churches, as well as interactions with local artists and musicians.
  • The BenCab Museum in Baguio highlights one of the Philippines’ greatest artists.
  • Caramoan is a seaside resort that attracts local folks who go “island hopping” on basic boats in search of hidden beaches on offshore islands.
The Philippines is strategically located and blessed with the greatest resource: its people, who are hard-working, very loyal, and very adaptive. - Benigno Aquino III

Moderately Challenging

Know before you go

  • Currently there is no Friendship Force presence in the Philippines. This Discovery Journey to two provincial cities will provide the opportunity to create two new Friendship Force clubs.
  • Weather conditions can be severe and walking and hiking can be challenging. All ambassadors must be physically fit, reasonably heat-tolerant, and flexible.
  • We will spend five nights in Baguio and five nights in Naga. In Baguio, we will be home-hosted for two nights and stay in a hotel for three nights; in Naga, we will be home-hosted for three nights and stay in a hotel for two nights. Both cities are on the island of Luzon.
  • Since this will be the first homestay experience for our hosts, we seek to minimize their burden by limiting the size of the group to 12 and giving preference to ambassadors who speak English.
  • Most of the home hosts are working, not retired, so we plan to have the homestay portions of the exchange over consecutive weekends.
